DJ and sound artist Bishi and collaborators Neil Kaczor and Matthew Hardern create a nightmarish and complex soundscape inspired by Will Self’s Death of a Government Inspector and Tamsin Collinson’s Publish and Be Damned.
Explaining her approach to creating the soundtrack, Bishi says:
‘In composing ‘Death of a Government Inspector,’ I had to bring to life one of the most significant chapters in British political history & this has been one of my greatest artistic challenges to date.
In realising the piece, I wanted to capture the universal of horror of warfare channeled through the inner turmoil of its protagonist, Dr David Kelley.
Recently, I have been creating layered choral pieces, mainly out of my own voice. This piece has been an opportunity for me to reflect on a wider range of influences such as Ligeti choral works, early Steve Reich tape pieces, Traditional Baha’i music & the opera’s of Meredith Monk. Sourcing samples from youtube has extended the sound palette & serves as the perfect additional voice & digital research tool.’
Please note that we are not yet able to announce the finalist scripts that were based on Will Self’s piece Death of a Government Inspector. We hope to announce them by the end of the week.
